Our Story

Christ Church Townsend was birthed out of a ten-year vision God gave the elders of Pepperell Christian Fellowship (PCF) in 2015. That vision included planting a gospel-centered, community-engaged church in a neighboring community, and it was fueled by a desire to see “more churches close to people” for the sake of reaching those who don’t know Jesus.

God called Pastor Jeff Willett (the Associate Pastor of PCF at the time) to lead this first church plant. A powerful part of Jeff’s call to church planting was his own conversion through the planting of a new church (PCF) in his neighborhood during his teen years.

After it became clear that PCF’s first church plant would be in Townsend, monthly prayer meetings began in November 2021 in the Townsend town hall for the purpose of praying for the town of Townsend and church planting efforts there.

The name Christ Church Townsend was adopted in May 2022 as a way of expressing “Whose (Jesus’), What (A church) and Where (Townsend) we are.” A church planting team was gathered in the summer of 2023 and in October 2023 weekly “missional meetings” were held to prepare the church planting team of 29 adults and 10 children for the work of planting a new church.

The first Sunday service of Christ Church Townsend, consisting of the planting team and special guests, was on January 1, 2023 in the Hawthorne Brook Middle School. A full “public launch” open to the whole community was held on Easter (April 9) 2023.

On January 1, 2024, Christ Church Townsend became an independent church. Together with PCF, it is part of a growing family of churches with the shared mission of “speaking gospel words and doing gospel works to display the worth of God to the world.” Our family of churches is committed to planting more churches in the communities of our region for the sake of Jesus’ name.
